Blog Time

Sooooo....Cliff and I just got back from a mini-vacation on the east coast!  Our friends Gwen and Stan were getting married this weekend, so we drove out to Boston with 4 other friends to go see their wedding and spend some time in Boston.  We spent a day and a half in Boston, and a day on Martha's Vineyard.  It was a pretty awesome trip, minus the driving part.  (Yesterday we left MV at 6:15 am and didn't get home til 11:30 last night!!)

Here are some pictures of the wedding and our trip, for your viewing pleasure!

Cliff and I on the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) and old warship built around 1800 or something like that.

My friends and traveling buddies, Stacie and Erin, and I on some freaky statue thing in Harvard Yard.

Here is Cliff and I at Gay Head and the very very end of Martha's Vineyard.  It took us 3 hours on a bus to get to this part of the island and back.  Worth it?  Absolutely not!!  :)

Going to Gwen's wedding was really cool, because she had a traditional Chinese 10 course (yes, 10!)  wedding dinner.  Each course symbolizes something lucky for their marriage.  Some of the courses I can remember were stuff like suckling pig (symbolizes the bride's purity), Chicken and Lobster (something about a dragon and phoenix), Shark Fin Soup (symbolizes wealth) and some other stuff that symbolized other stuff.  A lot of the food was served whole to symbolize completeness, so that lead to our chicken coming out with the head sitting on the plate looking at us!!  Man, if anything could make you become a vegetarian, that's it!  Here's the head (because you know Cliff just HAD to take a picture of it!!)

SICK!!!!!!  Yeah.  I couldn't eat much of the chicken.  It's a good thing they didn't do the same thing with the beef!

Here are mostly all of my grad student friends from Michigan who made it out to Boston for the wedding.

And finally, here is Cliff and I getting our grooves on.  We're hot, I know, you don't have to tell us....

Testing...Testing...

Hello out there???   Guess what?  I finally have something mildly interesting to post about!   Is anybody home?

We have a wedding date!!  It's May 17, 2008.  We have booked our church, our reception hall (reception barn?) and our photographer.  It's so exciting!!

Here is a drawing type picture of our church.  Sorry, I couldn't find a real picture on the internet so this will have to do.  It's Bethlehem United Church of Christ and it's in downtown Ann Arbor:

Our reception will be in a barn, yes a barn (Grass Lake REPRESENT!).  It's actually at a museumish type of place in AA that has an old stone farmhouse and this barn.  The barn is mostly hideoderous on the outside but the house and grounds are beautiful and I love love LOVE the inside of the barn.  Here's what it looks like:

Please note:  This is not a picture of our wedding.  It is someone else's wedding.  :)

Also, we found a photographer who takes good pictures, is cheap and is hilarious!  Here is an example of one of her pictures that I LOVE:

Please note:  This is not Cliff and I.  This is another couple.

Yay for wedding planning, I'm having so much fun!  Onto haggling with caterers!

In other news:  yes, Pfizer is closing down its entire Ann Arbor site.  Yes, Cliff is getting laid off, but we're not sure when, it might be another year or more.  He is looking into getting another job and/or going to grad school.  It sucks, but such is life, right?

In other other news:  I miss you guys!

SICK!!

Ewwww....so I have had not so pleasant of a weekend/monday.  We went up to Ludington for my cousin, Nate's, going away party.  That was pretty fun, although not too eventful.  We went to a flea market that strangely had a lot of similar items to those that we saw at Flea World in FL.  Do you think there is a flea market wholesaler somewhere?  Anyway, Sunday morning I woke up with a sore throat, a very runny nose, an achy body, and a nasty cough.  So that made the 4 hour drive home very pleasant, as I am sure you can imagine.

Monday morning I still felt crappy and had a fever, so I didn't go into work until 3 pm.  Cliff was very sweet and took care of me very nicely through all this- made me dinner, went out and bought me drugs, etc...until last night, when he started getting sick too!  So now we are both sick!!  I'm getting a little better, which is good, but Cliff is probably getting worse today, so that sucks.  Its a sad state of affairs in Ann Arbor, MI.

So I went into work on Monday afternoon because I wanted to finish up this experiment I had going because I was dying to see the results.  Well, I finished it and it came out as one of the most beautiful experiments I've ever done.  The bad thing is that it beautifully DISPROVES all the other data I have and makes what I'm working on not as interesting.  But the data are so freaking beautiful that it's hard to argue with it.  It sucks!

Anyway, that's the state of my life right now.  Sorry if I'm a little whiny- there are good things in my life, including:
Cliff moving most of his stuff in this weekend
Hanging out with Cliff's dad and Gwen this weekend
Maybe going on an IKEA shopping spree with my mom and sis this weekend
And you know, life in general is pretty good

So that's all I've got.

P.S.  Ya'll should leave a comment when you read this because that motivates me to update my blog more often and makes me feel loved!  And don't we all need a little more lovin'?

:)

Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag

Ok, fine, look, another post!  :)  You guys might be sorely disappointed though, because I haven't had a chance to upload my pictures from my camera yet, so no Florida pics!

Yes, Chaeli and I had a lovely trip to Sanford/Orlando FL to visit our friend Laine.  We had an awesome time, some nice weather, and got to go to the beach, which was awesome.  We also got to see Laine's older son, Evan, who is getting cuter and WAAAAY more mobile than the last time I saw him; and also her newest son, Seth, who is totally cute and cuddly.  After a slightly rollercoaster-ish plane ride back on a ghetto ghetto plane, we made it home safely.  YAY!  Next year we should definitely do Vegas, or somewhere similar.

I have been super duper busy this week so far.  I have a lot of experiments going on at once, which is good, but still, kind of hard to keep track of.  I am applying for a fellowship with the American Heart Association which is due in a month and is kind of a ton of work.  The INSTRUCTIONS for how to write the grant are 36 pages long!  So I have to write a 12 page, single spaced grant proposal, arrange to get letters of rec, do a biosketch, and fill out a bunch of other randomness.

This morning I went to the IKEA grand opening with Jenny before work to try to win $200 gift certificates.  Instead, we each one a free hot dog.  With the purchase of another hot dog.  The hot dog costs 50 cents.  So basically, we won prizes worth a quarter.  SWEET!  But we got to see all the awesome IKEA stuff.  I only bought kitchen shears because there was so much stuff that was so cute that I could choose- and we didn't have that much time to shop since we were supposed to be at work!

After work today, Cliff and I went and helped my friend Steffi move to her new apt.  She had a lot of stuff, but it didn't take us too long and her new apt is really cute!

Tomorrow night we might go see Failure to Launch at the dollar theater- anyone seen it, is it good?  Or we might stay home and do laundry and/or go grocery shopping- we are out of clothes and food!

Friday night we are going to go see this guy in my lab's band play.  They are called the Hot Carls.  Then Saturday morning we are getting up at the crack of dawn to drive up the Ludington for my cousin's going away party- he is joining the Air Force.  So that will be a fun weekend at Lake Michigan- hopefully with some kayaking action.  Then Sunday we will come home and it will be time to go to work again!

And now, for your reading pleasure, Cliff has a story that he would like to share with you.  This is personally written by the Cliffster himself, and describes a tramatic event that happened to him this very evening.

"So I feel like the most weird/creepy dude in all the area.  We were helping one of    Katie's friends move into a new apartment tonight.  After we pulled up to the new apartments with a car load of stuff, I stepped out and noticed a cute little kitty sitting in a window facing the parking lot.  Since the window was right beside the sidewalk, I walked up closer to get a good look.  Noticing some commotion in the back of the apartment, directly in line behind the kitty, I focused on what was happening.  There was a girl with a horrified look on her face that had just come out of the bathroom and was backing back in as if I was some murderer about to break in.  Well if thats not bad enough there is one more small detail...oh yes, the only thing she had on was a towel.....which was on her head.    Talk about a bad time to peep at someone's kitty."

Soooo....yeah, my boyfriend is not a perv, I swear.  And now that this is the world's LOOONGEST blog entry, ya'll better step up and give me some more material!!
